A matchmaker like no other

Kalyani Khona, 22, is helping build an inclusive society through an app that could help differently abled people to find partners. “I started this as a side project. But the response was overwhelming. We realised that nothing like this exists anywhere across the world,” says Khona. She already has 150 registrations and about 3,000 more requests are pending. The prototype app, called Loveability, has already been developed (by a firm called Wanted Umbrella, run by Khona and her partner Ishita Anil) and a crowd funding project started to support it. “They are catering to four categories: those with physical disabilities, mental disabilities, health disorders (like diabetes or albinism) and brain disorders; people looking for a different sort of marriage,” explains Khona. Taking a leave from typical matrimonial portals, Loveability aims to focus on parameters such as medical condition, possibility of cure and level of independence. The crowd-funding is scheduled to close on 6 August but they are looking to close by 15 July because Wanted Umbrella is in a hurry to release the app.
