No decision taken on Gehlot-Pilot feud

NewsNo decision taken on Gehlot-Pilot feud

As the Congress held the much-awaited meeting on the Rajasthan issue this week to defuse tensions between the current state Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot, it is believed that no conclusive decision was taken on the matter.
After the meeting, both the leaders came out with the organisation general secretary K.C. Venugopal, but did not have any joint conference where both the leaders could have declared their peace with each other or any truce to go along with each other for the upcoming Assembly elections this year. A Congress leader said, “It was only K.C. Venugopal who spoke and said we will contest the elections together and there was no word from either of the leaders. And that does not indicate the end of the conflict, but suggests there are things pending and more is needed to address the issue.”
It is also believed that both the leaders did not have any heated exchange as Rahul Gandhi was himself present in the meeting. However, a source privy to the meeting said Rahul Gandhi had made a point by saying that whatever the high command decides, both the leaders will have to comply by that.
However, a source aware of the matter suggested that a full-fledged decision could be taken after Rahul Gandhi, currently in United States, comes back. Word is, the Gehlot government may form committees on the matters raised by Sachin Pilot who has, since lately, been trying to corner Vasundhara Raje on the issues of alleged corruption while she was in power. A political analyst said, “Pilot has been very serious about the corruption issues of Raje and he has conducted so many rallies to draw the firm attention on the issue. If the time has come of getting back together, it must be an act of Pilot’s face-saving. Or else there would again have cropped up the reputation problem of Pilot where he is being seen as someone who is not being heard adequately by the high-command. His position in the party may have again weakened. This could be a Pilot appeasement activity.”
Pilot loyalists say it is difficult for Pilot to step back from his demands. An ex-spokesperson close to Pilot said, “Pilotji won’t hold back. His demands are not only his, they are what people’s demands are. He is just representing them.”
