Photography exhibition on the meaning and value of travel

ArtPhotography exhibition on the meaning and value of travel

Nipun Nayyar will be exhibiting his photo travelogue, Of Miles and Me, at Delhi’s India Habitat Centre, Convention Foyer, from 1-5 of February. The exhibition will display photographs of his visual documentation of his adventures around the USA, Australia, India, Pakistan and Nepal. He calls it some tales Of Miles and Me.

Nipun is a freelance travel photographer. After completing his photography course from New York Film Academy, New York in 2015, his career started as a photography intern with Sotheby’s Auction House, New York. It has continued to take him to 15 countries, and 26 states in the US. He has conducted international photography workshops and given artist talks in New York, Karachi, Lahore and New Delhi.

In this exhibition, he showcases stunning landscapes, vivid portraits and minimalistic street imagery. He captures serene and extraordinary landscapes at Tasmania, Australia and several places around the USA. As for his street photographs, the play of light and geometry make everyday street scenes seem unique. There are some photographs from Pakistan and India that the artist says are very close to his heart.

At the exhibition one will also find that there is something unique about his portraiture. The portraits will make one that you are actually interacting with the person. One of his portraits shows timeless beauty of an old Himachali woman. The artist says “Beauty really has no age. In fact the wrinkles on her face add all the more beauty to her. She made chai for her grandson and me. We are staying at her grandson’s house in a mountain village a couple of hours hike from Kasol, Himachal Pradesh. She neither knows Hindi nor English. She only speaks the regional Himachali Language. But I realise, just as beauty has no age, conversation needs no language. Over chai, I create a portrait of her.”

Of Miles and Me, is a collection of visual stories. He says “Every story within me, keeps me pushing for better visual content. It makes me a better person. It makes me learn. Learn about the world, about myself. I am a traveller. Photography is my medium of expression of the soul enriching miles I explore. It is a way of story-telling. It is the art of visuals that keeps me travelling deeper.”

This upcoming exhibition will be his third solo exhibit. Previous solo shows were at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi (2017) and Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai (2018). His work has also been part of several group shows spanning New York to the Dominican Republic.

Of Miles and Me, will be on view at India Habitat Centre from 1-5 February
