Reds, blues and Christmas cheer for your wardrobe

FashionReds, blues and Christmas cheer for your wardrobe

Christmas is one of the most awaited festivals celebrated across the world. And its that time of the year when all fashion sense is reduced to making a choice between red and green (or picking something in a red-green combination). Renowned designer Pawan Sachdeva recently talked to Guardian 20 about his latest Christmas collection. He said, “For Christmas, in International market, we have come out with long coats and trench coats. We have also added lots of colours in jackets such as olive, mustard, charcoal, black and we used little bit of red in the detailing of the jackets like on the collar and sleeves. We have also done gold and metal embellishment on jackets. Then we have kept all striped and checkered trousers.”

For casual wear, Sachdeva’s Christmas collection includes polo neck t-shirts.  He has also come up with mufflers for the season. For men, especially in India, the collection comprises bright checks on the mufflers.

He further gave us some quick tips to dress up for the day, and said, “People can deck up in a nice jacket along with denims. They can complement the look with a good pair of shoes and a nice belt. They should wear knitted inners to look classier. So, basically it is all about the colour coordination.”

The trends emerging this Christmas include one-piece dresses, easy silhouettes with modern cuts and cold shoulder jumpsuits. Women can also go for tasseled dresses, cocktail dresses or evening wear gowns for a casual or formal get-together. Right from chic dresses to formal jumpsuits to trendy capes and tops, this season the festival’s enthusiasts are pretty high on fashion.

Sneha Mehta, founder, Kukoon, a Delhi-based label for women and kids, advised us on trying on different winter colours and not just stick to red. She said, “Christmas is a day where celebrations are endless and one needs to look their best for the complete day. People love to wear the colour ‘Red’ in particular but I believe one should play with the winter colours as well to look different and stylish. For Christmas, one should look for skater dresses for the morning time as it is not windy and pair it up with classy leggings when heading for prayers as it makes you look subtle. For the parties happening in the night one should go with a bright golden or a statement black dress. Pair it up with pumps and a golden clutch and you are good to go. Ladies should always carry a stylish overcoat for midnight terrace parties.”

Mehta further talked about how men can style it up and said, “Where people think that the choices for men are quite few, I believe if you really want to style well, you can mix and match and look smart for the parties. They can go with ripped jeans and overcoats. Men can pair their office pants with smart jackets to make the look more casual. One can also try some really cool printed sweatshirts and pair it with jogger pants and boots. It’s all about how one can carry them even when the clothes are not apt with the occasion. Believe in your dressing sense and make it look smart on you.”

Formal gatherings at workplace also need you to think about your fashion statement. So, when gearing up for a Christmas bash, a red blazer can never go wrong. It looks smart and of course gives the Christmas vibes. A green striped blazer with trousers rolled at the bottom will be a perfect fit for the evening, suggested Sunil Mehra, creative director of Corneliani, an international luxury menswear brand.

For those who prefer spending time at home with family and friends, house parties make for an ideal occasion to bring out the fashionista in you.

“The most innovative fashion emerges from house parties. Without worrying about being judged, one can explore the unconventional styling at indoor parties and not compromising with the comfort. Turtle-neck t-shirts are everyone’s favourite and the warmth they provide, especially at this time of the year, makes them the best of all to be worn both by women and men,” said Saggar Mehra, creative director, Corneliani.

People also love to flaunt their hand-crafted traditional wear during this time. Attired doen in olive greens with red accessories are the best choice this season for them.

Stylist Aastha, alumni, Pearl Academy, said, “High boots keep you warm and also make you look trendy. Also, hats are really in and they look good. One can go with different kinds of jackets as well. Woolen and leather jackets are best suited for the festival. Also you can wear a dress with warm leggings. Winters let you experiment with lots of things.”

People who love to jazz it up for the winters without compromising on the warmth and comfort should get their hands on warm capes that they can pair with a long lightweight woolen full-length coat. Girls can don warm velvet patterned dresses. Complement those with stockings to brighten up your Christmas festivities.
