Understated bling with Mayurr Girrota

Mayurr Girrota, known for his luxurious designs that mix a modern aesthetic with the know-how of age old embroideries released his latest collection in Delhi’s swish bar at the Taj Blue Bar, among a mix of designers, the fashion fraternity and distinguished folks in the capital. Girrota’s designs included single colour formal outfits done with thick cloth that cut firm silhouettes, embroidered with rich gold thread.
Girotta said of his latest collection Bling it on, “Bling is not what we understand of it as tacky and unnecessarily loud. It can also be understated and vintage, and that is the vibe that I seek for this collection. I remember my grandmother’s cupboards were full of these jamawar sarees that she would then wear everywhere, even to the clubs, for instance. However, with the next generation, these elegant sarees started disappearing, and I wanted to bring back the timeless elegance of that era, with a contemporary twist to them.”

Girrota had Kalki Koechlin walk the ramp for him as the showstopper in a regal black collared floor length flared jacket teamed with matching black trousers. The jacket had intricate golden leaves embroidered on its edges. Koechlin said of Girrota’s outfits, “There is a timeless essence about these outfits — they do not belong to any particular age and I feel good about wearing them.” Koechlin was happy to take her turn at being fashionista, “I enjoy wearing clothes, and I am lucky to be in a profession where I get to wear different kinds of clothes, whether it is for a cover shoot or for a fashion show.”
