Gadget Review: Steeply priced, but with worthy features

ZenBook Pro UX 501
Asus
Rs 1,15,999
With a price tag of Rs 1,15,999, the Asus ZenBook Pro UX501 is more of a luxury device and will inevitably find itself compared to the MacBook Pro. The aluminium lid and body do lend a premium touch to the device, but that might not be enough to grab eyeballs in a space which Apple has made its own. When it comes to specs, the laptop has a 15.6-inch UHD 2160×3840 IPS screen, and 10 finger touch input for Windows 8 and 10. It also comes with three USB 3.0 ports. It does have impressive features such as 16GB DDR3 RAM, and a Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M with 2GB GDDR5 memory. An HD webcam, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, and 96WHr 6-cell battery are the other notable specs. Although it’s not exactly a gaming device, it can easily pass off as one, and provides a decent gaming experience. The 4K display with 282ppi pixel density gives stunning results, although playing games will be a smoother affair on the 1080p resolution. With the sturdy aluminium build, decent battery backup and impressive specifications, the device will appeal to those who want a truly high end device but don’t want to burn a hole in their pockets. Minor issues like an overtly reflective screen, and no anti-glare protection aside, the laptop does deliver on its promises.
