Mass wedding conducted for tribal couples

A mass wedding of 1,121 tribal couples was organised at Tutterkhed in the Valsad district of Gujarat on Saturday by India Eye International Human Rights Observer, an NGO.

The event was organised under the guidance of Rakesh Sharma, Managing Director, and Rakesh Kumar Garg, Chairman of the NGO. The couples were greeted at the venue with chanting of Sanskrit shlokas by priests. The NGO, that goes by the name “Think”, also arranged gifts like bicycles, almirahs, utensils and other household items for the couples.

The wedding was witnessed by a large gathering of 40,000 guests, which included many political dignitaries. The event was presided over by Ganapath Vasov, Speaker of the Gujarat Assembly.

Speaking on the occasion, Sharma said, “The event was a true success not only because of the way everything was organised, but mainly because of the immense joy it brought to the 1,121 couples and their families who could never have imagined getting married in such a spectacular way.”

This event has also been registered and is likely to be mentioned in the Guinness Book of World Records.
