Allegations of wrongdoing are being probed in India, only when there is enough evidence.
I was also there in the team of select journalists during Rajiv Gandhi’s 1985 visit to America. His discussion at the Washington Press Club was liked at that time, but he did not actively participate or comment on Indira and anti-Congress people in India or America. Organizations were even being accused of cooperation with American agencies.
But today the situation has changed. Rahul Gandhi goes to America and narrates his grief on how government investigating agencies working on economic crimes threaten democracy in India; he further puts serious allegations that due to the action of these agencies, there is a threat to freedom of expression, etc. The most interesting thing is that because of liberal economic policies followed from the beginning of the Rajiv Gandhi Raj, now the expansion of the companies of big capitalists is being called unfair. How were Khalistani slogans raised in the programs of people invited by Rahul Gandhi’s special advisors?
The prominent leader of the Congress party has every right to travel abroad. But on one hand, he is talking about the danger to democracy, and, on the other hand, he is doing a successful march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir as well as claiming massive success of the Congress in the recent elections in Himachal and Karnataka Legislative Assemblies. Will the world understand the proof of this danger? Parliament is in session; not only America, and Britain, but China too is appreciating the inauguration of the grand new Parliament House. So, for corruption or economic offenses, apart from Rahul Gandhi, other leaders of Opposition Arvind Kejriwal, Lalu-Tejashwi Yadav, Stalin, K. Chandrasekhar Rao etc. are getting very angry by accusing the government of bias and are performing on the streets, whereas CBI, Enforcement Directorate, Income Tax Department etc. investigated serious cases and some leaders, their accomplices—brokers of liquor or foreign weapons—were sent to jail. But in many cases of money laundering, American, British or other rich countries, Governments and agencies are supporting India. Investigative agencies in America are investigating Donald Trump, even Boris Johnson is being investigated in Britain. Former Prime Ministers of many countries, including Japan or the President, has been punished for serious economic crimes and sent to jail.
There is no doubt that the number of old and new cases of economic crimes have increased in India. Government investigative agencies and court proceedings go on for years. In some cases, it takes time to collect evidence from abroad. The case of brokerage in Bofors gun purchase went on for years.
Recently, in the case of purchase of Hawk aircraft from Rolls-Royce India Pvt. Ltd.Rolls-Royce India Pvt Ltd, a British aerospace company, on charges of defrauding the Government of India, Tim Jones, director of Rolls-Royce India Pvt Ltd and Sudhir Chowdhary, arms dealer. A case was also registered against Bhanu Chowdhary and other unknown government leaders or officials.
In this case, only the UK’s investigative agencies have confirmed the crime with evidence after investigation. This action was taken by M/s Rolls-Royce Turbomeca Limited of UK and its associate group in connection with the transactions done with the companies. According to the CBI, the then public servant (politician-official) abused official position. A total of 24 Hawk 115 Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) aircraft have been approved and procured. Other than this, M/s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the material supplied by the said manufacturer paid308.247 million dollars for the material of 42 additional aircraft to be made by (HAL). Also a payment of $7.5 million was approved in the form of manufacturing license fees. Middlemen on behalf of the said manufacturer and its officers bribed, commission and license fee were paid. The prime accused Sudhir Chowdhary of Congress Raj was influential in the corridors of power like a VIP on the strength of his contacts. And there have also been allegations of allowing commissions to be taken in defense purchases from Israel.
