Good Earth launches Varanasi themed collection

Varanasi, the oldest living city has served as an inspiration for many. It has been constantly represented in paintings, art, music and film. Good Earth, known for their themed apparel, tableware and homeware collections has its heart set on this city for its latest collection.
The collections is rooted in the city’s identity that would appeal to a wider global audience with an interest in Varanasi’s traditions.  Their annual collection focusses on reviving and refining the craftsmanship present in this city, giving it a contemporary platform. The collection has been informed from the indulgent court traditions that this city was famous for, using fabrics and material that appeal to seekers of luxury.
Brocade, the luxurious material a part of this city’s story, is coloured silk strewn with gold and silver threads to form patterns, that have been designed by by five craft clusters in Varanasi for Good Earth’s Varanasi collection. This is intricate work; every  metre of fabric takes a day for the artisan.
The collection includes apparels, tableware and homeware named Kashika and Rasiya. It is envisaged using the vibrant colour of Varanasi: the dawn hues at the ghats of deep purple, orange and deep pink.
Varanasi is famous since purportedly Rig Vedic times for its exquisite weaves. Handloom weaving has flourished in Varanasi and it reached its pinnacle under the Mughals who were generous patrons of its shimmering silk brocades known as kinkhab, created in delicate arabesque designs.
The Varanasi collection is available at The Good Earth, Select City Walk Mall, Saket, Delhi.
