There are times in our lives when we long for a new beginning with God, our heavenly Father. We let ourselves drift away, succumbing to the enticing ways of the world, and neglecting the things from God. Disappointments and trials may cause us to turn our back on God and His people.
Close relationships may turn sour and we may vow to never reconcile, but as our arrogance fades, we acknowledge our need for God. We find ourselves walking alone, having left our Maker far behind. How do we find our way back now?
God takes the first step towards us. The Holy Spirit speaks to us through the beauty of creation and work of art; we hear Him in the cries of people; incidents in our routine remind us of God; the preaching of His word meets us at our point of need; and at times God meets us in a vision. All we need to do is take a baby step towards God, our loving Father, who delights in teaching us how to walk. Nothing will change unless you take the first step towards our God of new beginnings.
To the broken, fallen, but repentant King David, the prophet said, “The Lord has taken away your sin” (2 Sam. 12:13). To the disobedient and chastised prophet Jonah, “The word of the Lord came the second time” (Jonah 3:1).
To the weeping and broken Peter, the risen Jesus Christ appeared privately and restored him (John 21:15-17). God graciously offers you a new beginning too!
Do you want a new beginning with God? It’s available. Pause right now to confess your waywardness and repent; and walk in obedience to the ways of God’s love, justice and peace.
Pray and make a new beginning. You can be confident of God’s promise, “Behold I make all things new” (Rev.21:5).
