PDP, BJP leaders to meet J&K governor over govt formation

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and BJP state president Sat Sharma will meet Jammu and Kashmir governor N.N. Vohra on Tuesday, after the Vohra asked the two parties to clear the air on government formation.

Vohra had asked both parties to clarify their respective positions on the issue of government formation byTuesday. The governor’s instruction comes at a time when the state is in a political uncertainty with the PDP giving no hints whether it wants to continue its alliance with the BJP.
Earlier, Mehbooba Mufti had held a meeting of party leaders in Srinagar on Sunday. She had said that BJP will have to walk the talk to implement the “agenda of alliance”, and that her party will stake claim for government formation only after that.
Following Mehbooba’s stand, the state BJP leadership met in Jammu on Monday morning and discussed the situation.

Senior state BJP leader told this newspaper that PDP was resorting to political coercion and no fresh demands would be entertained.

Former Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Nirmal Singh said that he was hopeful that the decks would be cleared for the government formation. He claimed that the BJP is ready to implement “agenda of alliance” in letter and spirit.

Informed sources said that Mehbooba Mufti was in touch with the central leadership of BJP and has sought a time frame for the implementation of many issues in the “agenda of alliance”. State Congress leaders have said that there was no basis in the media reports that Congress was ready to give support to Mehbooba Mufti in case she will not go ahead with BJP. But insiders in PDP camp claimed that Mehbooba Mufti was in touch with Central leadership of the Congress.
