‘Haunted’ house in GK gets new occupants

The infamous house number W3 of Greater Kailash part 1 in south Delhi, which remained abandoned for almost 27 years because of being allegedly haunted, has got new occupants.
The house, which was purchased by some Gupta family three years ago, has been rebuilt with state-of-the-art architecture and facilities. The man who guards the house told The Sunday Guardian that “yes this house was haunted. Some years back it had even become a tourist attraction, with groups of youngsters coming here for adventure trips. Even though it has been rebuilt now, we still have people coming here.”
“The person who bought this house did a very big havan for three days along with an elaborate jagran to sanctify the place and disperse the spirits,” the guard added. The Guptas do not live in the house. “They come here for a few days in a month or two,” he said.
The house did not have any claimant as the couple who lived here did not make any will. This correspondent, however, could not reach the new owner to find out whom he purchased the house from. Even the local police did not have any information on this.
It is said that an old couple — Yadu Krishnan Kaul and Madhu Kaul — who lived here, were murdered in 1986. Their bodies were found in a water tank inside the premises of the house. As the couple did not have any children, the sprawling property remained unclaimed. Over the years, residents of the area started complaining of “screams and squabs” emanating from this W3 house in GK. Some also saw “phantom like figures” walking down the terrace of the house on some nights. But, the local police rubbished such claims. It was reported at that time that a pundit close to the family was killed the couple as he was eying the posh property opposite the GK 1 police station. But, the pundit never came forward to claim the house. However, Special Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Deepak Mishra, who was then Assistant Commissioner of Police and in charge of this case, said, “It has been solved now. It was a case of burglary. The pundit theory was not true. All the accused have been arrested and chargesheeted. They are currently undergoing trials in court.”
