Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has accused a section of the media along with opposition leader Omar Abdullah of disrupting peace in the valley by circulating false stories regarding the construction of Sainik Colony quarters in Srinagar. She dismissed the news that such construction was going on.
CM Mehbooba said that Omar Abdullah led this misinformation campaign by spreading canards on Twitter about Sainik Colonies.
She said that as the former CM and the Leader of the Opposition Omar knows that he has been spreading rumours.
Taking on the media, she said: “I will not allow a few newspapers to set Kashmir on fire by spreading baseless reports about the construction of Sainik Colonies in Srinagar.”
Omar defended himself on the floor of the J&K Assembly, saying he had only tweeted some government orders about the Sainik Colonies.
He also rebutted the CM’s claim that it was during his tenure orders were issued for the construction of Sainik Colonies.
Omar said that he was seeking clarification from the government about the inclusion of non-state subjects in the proposed Sainik Colonies.
Meanwhile, Army spokesman Col N.N. Joshi told the media in Srinagar that the Army was constructing some accommodation project quarters inside the Old Airfield Military Station and the accommodation was meant for serving Army personnel.
He clarified that this activity was not part of the construction of Sainik Colonies in Kashmir.
