Army Chief visits J&K, takes stock

Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag on Saturday reviewed the situation along the International Border in Jammu and Line of Control in Kashmir even as hundreds of families have started migrating from Karnah, Uri and many border villages in Jammu, with Pakistan increasing cross-border shelling at night in all these sectors after India’s surgical strikes. General Suhag complimented the soldiers who carried out the surgical strikes and returned safely. He was briefed about the operational preparedness along the LoC in Kashmir Valley and held detailed discussions for hours with his commanders on the ground. Meanwhile, the state government has asked all hospitals in the state to be on high alert in view of the growing border tension. All schools have been closed near the border in Jammu region and in Kashmir valley. In the Karnah sector, hundreds of families left their homes from Tangdar, Teetwal and Chehchokote as Indian and Pakistani soldiers exchanged heavy gunfire. The district administrations in Poonch and Rajouri have started making final arrangements for shifting 6,674 families to safer places from 68 villages.
