Male BTech student alleges sexual assault

A male BTech student from Galgotias University, a prominent university in Greater Noida, has alleged that he had been ragged and sexually assaulted continuously for several days by some senior students in a private hostel where he had been staying. The victim is currently undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here.

The victim told The Sunday Guardian that he was being subjected to mental and physical harassment every day by some of the university students who shared the same hostel in which he had been staying. “I was being forcefully drugged and injected upon. They used to come to my room at the middle of the night and beat me up. They used to force me to sniff drugs at night or else I would be beaten up mercilessly,” the victim said.

He further added that some students even sexually assaulted him. “They had inserted rods into my private parts and I would scream with pain; yet they showed no mercy. I tried to run away from the hostel, but they used to stop me,” he said, tears rolling down his eyes.

The victim recalled that it all started with a party in the hostel, where his soft drink was allegedly spiked by some of his hostel mates. According to him, this triggered the beginning of the harassment.

The victim’s father said: “My son has endured a lot. He is in shock and depression. He is being treated by a psychologist,”

The father further added that as they could not get a hostel on the university campus due to limited seats, they sought a private hostel accommodation outside the campus. “There were limited seats in the university hostel. Somebody recommended this private hostel near Sharda University. Since we heard that it was run by former Armymen, we felt assured that it would be safe.”

“The hostel wardens and the owner had also connived with the students and helped them rag my son,” the victim’s father added.

The Greater Noida police has lodged an FIR on the basis of complaints by the victim’s father under IPC Sections 377, 323, 328 and 147 for “unnatural sexual offences, voluntarily causing hurt, drugging or poisoning and rioting”. The FIR also named six persons allegedly involved in the case, including the names of the warden of the hostel.

The victim’s father has also complained about the “lackadaisical attitude” of the police and said, “The police is not recording the statement of my son and is also not handing over the medical reports to us. My son needs treatment and if they do not give us the medical report, how can we take forward his treatment.”

Neeraj Malik, the investigating officer of the case, however told The Sunday Guardian: “Since the victim is changing his statement repeatedly and is not well and undergoing treatment, we could not take his statement. We will record his statement very soon. As far as medical reports are concerned, all the medical reports are yet to come, and we also need to provide them to the court.”

So far no arrests have been made in the case. Police has said that the allegations of sexual assault and drugging are yet to be proved as all the final medical reports have not been furnished yet and investigation is underway.

Dr A.K. Jain, Dean and welfare officer of Galgotias University, said, “The matter is under police investigation now and this would  not be the right time to comment on the matter.”
