God will surprise you with mercies

opinionGod will surprise you with mercies

Are you going through a challenging season in your life, where you are battling with God? If you allow Him, God will use this time to help enrich your faith and growth in spiritual maturity. Do you believe prophet Jeremiah when he says, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lam. 3:22-23). God’s faithfulness was and is great and He continues to use difficult seasons to reveal Himself to us for our good.

God is the source of all life. It is only because of His mercies that we’re still here. As Paul stated “It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God – that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption” (1 Cor. 1:30).

God’s “steadfast love” is His gracious gift to His people. We use the word love so freely. We love our cars, our pets, our house, a funny video we see on YouTube. However, God’s “steadfast love” is another kind of love altogether. It’s how God defines and demonstrates love to His people.

When He faithfully blesses those who’ve done nothing to deserve His love, that’s steadfast love. When Jesus sacrificed Himself on the cross for our sins, that was steadfast love in its fullest expression. There was never a “good enough” benchmark that we had to meet in order to deserve His love. We are accepted the way we are.

God’s mercies are not a one-time thing, but an endless outpouring, for which we must always be grateful. Every time we go to the Lord, seeking His forgiveness for the same failings, follies and sins, we can be sure of His pardon. He will never say, I don’t want to hear your prayers anymore. Approach God with confidence through Jesus Christ our Lord. Remember you are a recipient of God’s steadfast love and mercies every morning.
