Congress focus was on Kanhaiya’s seat

NEW DELHI: Besides Congress, Aam Aadmi Party cadre had also received instructions that the rank and file should go all out to pursue his victory by a record margin.

The top leadership in the Congress party gave more importance to Kanhaiya Kumar’s North East Delhi seat in comparison to the other ones in the just concluded Lok Sabha polls, according to the leaders.

The Lok Sabha polls in Delhi were conducted on Saturday.

Apart from that, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) cadre had also received instructions that the rank and file should scramble to pursue his victory by record margin. According to a leader, “There were instructions from the top (Kejriwal) that all the seven AAP legislators (out of 10) should ensure all the ground work is done, and all the necessary requirements are fulfilled to make Kanhaiya win. We were told that Kanhaiya should win with record margins. And that is what everybody has been pursuing.”

A senior Congress leader holding an official position said, “Kanhaiya had received wrong feedback that Congress people do not stand with him because he is a candidate from outside. However, those who were against his candidature have already left. Therefore, the whole input he had received was wrong. Even after his distancing from the Congress cadre the whole party worked for him, campaigned for him and did whatever was needed to ensure his victory.”

The sentiment, according to sources privy to the developments, is that the BJP has been sweeping Delhi since last 10 years (In 2019, BJP received 56 percent votes share in Delhi) and therefore the North East Delhi seat should be erected as a defensive fort where from the saffron camp stumbles.
