Delhi Congress set to go on a talent hunt

NewsDelhi Congress set to go on a talent hunt

Even those who are not members of the Congress but believe in its ideology can apply.

NEW DELHI

The Congress party in Delhi and Haryana, led by Dipak Babaria (in-charge of the two states) has chosen the talent-hunt route to recruit the party’s social media team, by interviewing people with good speaking skills so that they can be adjusted in official positions as the state unit spokespersons for the two states.

Party leaders suggest that there are no eligibility criteria and anyone who thinks will be able to speak with facts and have a clean diction should apply and wait for the response from the party. Moreover, even those who are not members of the Congress party but believe in its ideology can apply.

Congress spokesperson of the Delhi unit said, “It will certainly help the party to communicate better with the people. What will happen is if those people who are talented in reality, those are good speakers and those who know how to handle social media will take control of the important responsibilities. At times what happens is that people who come to hold positions of importance through reference lack the capability to address issues for what they are appointed. Thereby the actual talent remains where they are without being put to a better use. And those people who have got connections start holding such positions which ultimately impacts the image of the party. Even if they are not intelligent enough or capable enough in dealing in the given positions by the party, they keep holding the positions. By such an initiative, the real talent will come forward and somewhere Congress party in social media presence will improve and become better.”

A political analyst based in Delhi said, “The Congress party just doesn’t need talent, they need a lot more than that. They must prepare on multiple fronts to be relevant between the high performing BJP and AAP in Delhi. First, they need a stronger local narrative which can counter AAP in Delhi and cater to the sentiments of the people of Delhi. The other problems mostly emerge from their inactivity and therefore they perform below average in all elections in Delhi. Talent hunt could be a good step though, but the bottom-line is how willing you are to be active on the ground and connect with the people. That is where Congress seems on the backfoot.”

Moreover, the party has no legislators in the 70-seat Delhi assembly, which shows that the party will have to start from scratch to build up a cadre, which can connect with the masses and bring it electoral successes.
