NewsDelhi implements tight security for EVMs ahead of Lok Sabha election results

NEW DELHI: Delhi’s election office ensures tight security for EVMs/VVPATs ahead of Lok Sabha results, with robust measures and constant monitoring in place.

With just two days left until the Lok Sabha election results are announced on June 4, all necessary preparations have been completed. The Delhi election office has implemented a robust two-tier security system for the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) stored in strong rooms.

Chief Election Officer of Delhi, P. Krishnamurthy, informed The Sunday Guardian that a proactive approach has been taken to ensure the integrity of the electoral process, with the vote counting scheduled for June 4. He stated, “Polled EVMs and VVPATs from all seven parliamentary constituencies in the national capital are stored under stringent security arrangements.”

Krishnamurthy further mentioned that representatives of contesting candidates are permitted to closely monitor the security of these strong rooms through CCTV monitors.

Comfortable accommodations have been arranged for these representatives at the locations, and they are granted periodic access to the inner perimeter in batches to observe, verify, and be assured of security measures.

Election officials have confirmed that security around the strong rooms is maintained round-the-clock. The innermost perimeter is guarded by the Central Armed Paramilitary Forces, while the outermost perimeter is secured by the State Armed Police. Additionally, there is 24-hour CCTV surveillance covering the sealed doors of strong rooms and corridors. These rooms feature a single entry/exit point, a double-lock system, and mandatory videography during opening and closing times. Only vehicles of VIPs and officials are allowed on the premises.

The office of the CEO has set up strong rooms in each of the seven parliamentary constituencies, including SKV, Bharat Nagar in Chandni Chowk; ITI, Nand Nagri in North East Delhi; Sports Complex, CWG Village in East Delhi; Atal Adarsh Balika Vidyalaya, Gole Market in New Delhi; DTU, Shahbad Daulatpur in Northwest Delhi; NSUT, Dwarka in West Delhi; and Jijabai ITI for Women, Siri Fort in South Delhi.
