‘Green War Room’ launched to tackle pollution

NEW DELHI

The Delhi government has started a special campaign to control pollution in the national capital and the adjacent region from October 7th.

This campaign will last a month, said an official aware of the situation. On the other hand, environmental minister Gopal Rai had started the “Green War Room” to monitor air pollution and solve complaints.

Every year during winter, air pollution spikes in the national capital as well as the adjacent region, mainly due to stubble burning and meteorological factors. So, to tackle air pollution, the Delhi government started the Green War Room. “To give a more hands-on approach and enable 24×7 monitoring of our efforts, we are starting the Green War Room. A total of 17 members will be working in the war room. The team will work based on complaints received on the Green Delhi mobile application,” said Gopal Rai.

He said that complaints received on the app are jointly taken up by 28 Central and Delhi government departments. Nodal officers have been appointed in every department to operate this app. Rai further said: “We are starting a special anti-dust campaign to control pollution in the vicinity.”

An official aware of the matter said, “The government will deploy 82 mechanical road sweeping machines, 530 water sprinklers, and 258 mobile antismog guns during the campaign that will last for one month.”
