Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday announced that the Bhagavad Gita would be included in the curriculum up to Class 8 to teach moral values to students. Chairing a meeting with education department officials, the CM stressed the importance of providing quality education in government schools and rebuilding public confidence in the state’s education system.

The CM also directed officials to address the shortage of teaching staff by rationalizing the allocation of teachers according to student numbers. “There is no shortage of teachers in Haryana; the focus should be on their proper distribution,” Saini said while interacting with the media persons.

The chief minister said a comprehensive action plan is being developed to ensure that all teaching positions are filled by the next academic session. He also emphasized the need to make sports and cleanliness mandatory for the holistic development of children. The CM said that the government was committed to modernize the police force of the state with Rs 300 crore which was also announced in the BJP’s election manifesto.

Saini said that the police department has been instructed to submit a detailed proposal for the modernization plan at the earliest. Saini also highlighted the progress in combating cybercrime in the state saying that the government aims to curb cyber fraud entirely and apprehend cybercriminals. In a review meeting in Panchkula, the CM promised stringent action against illegal drug trade and proposed a target to make 70% of Haryana’s villages drug-free by 2025.

He also announced that the government would soon introduce a bill in the state assembly to curb illegal immigration, with the legislation set to be tabled in the upcoming budget session. Highlighting the improved law and order situation, Saini noted a decline in crime rates, particularly against women, and commended the state’s progress in addressing cybercrime. Police officers have been directed to take a sensitive approach toward the public and intensify their efforts against criminals.

He said that a policy to reward police personnel for exceptional service will soon be implemented to recognize and encourage their work while ensuring accountability. Earlier, during a pre-budget consultation meeting on January 2 in Gurugram, the CM engaged with stakeholders from the industry and manufacturing sectors, gathering suggestions for the 2025-26 state budget. He said that the initiatives announced by him would help to take Haryana forward to achieve Prime Minister Modi’s dream of a developed India by 2047.
