New Delhi: The government has allocated Rs 95,957.87 crore for the development, maintenance, and improvement of the country’s healthcare system, which is higher than Rs 86,582.48 crore in FY25. The government has also allocated Rs 2,445 crore for Production Linked Incentive (PLI) for the pharmaceutical industry.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget for the eighth consecutive time in the Lok Sabha on Saturday, allocating Rs 37,226.922 crore to the National Health Mission (NHM). The National Tele Mental Health Programme was allocated Rs 79.6 crore.

Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) got an allocation of Rs 9,406 crore to expand health insurance coverage.
The Pradhandhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PMABHIM) allocation is Rs 4,200 crores for the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PMABHIM). The Union Budget allocated Rs 20,046.07 crores for autonomous bodies. The allocation for All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, was increased to Rs 5,200 crores.
During the budget presentation, FM said the government will establish 200 cancer centers in 2025-26. The government will facilitate the setting up of daycare cancer centers in all district hospitals in the next three years.
“Setting up daycare cancer centers at the district level is a welcome step. These centers will provide facilities for cancer chemotherapy/immunotherapy and daycare operations for a variety of cancers,” said Dr. Shyam Aggarwal, Vice President of the Indian Society of Medical and Paediatric Oncology.
Sitharaman also announced that from next year, 10,000 additional seats will be added in medical colleges and hospitals towards the goal of adding 75,000 seats in the next five years. “Our government has added almost 1.1 lakh undergraduate and postgraduate medical education seats in 10 years, an increase of 130%. In the next year, 10,000 additional seats will be added in medical colleges and hospitals towards the goal of adding 75,000 seats in the next five years,” she said. “Adding 10,000 medical seats is a welcome step to bridge the gap in trained medical professionals,” said Dr. D.S. Rana, Chairman, Trust Board, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
