NDMC members accuse Kejriwal of failing to check air pollution

NewsNDMC members accuse Kejriwal of failing to check air pollution

Kejriwal adjourned NDMC’s monthly meeting and left the meeting midway, alleges NDMC Vice Chairperson.

Members of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) have accused Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of failing to check air pollution in the NDMC region as well as in the entire city. NDMC members have said that because of the failure of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led government in Delhi, Delhiites are facing severe air pollution, which is leading to different airborne diseases.
“This AAP government is without governance as they have no answers and no idea how to tackle the pollution; they only make false promises,” said Satish Upadhaya, Vice Chairperson of the NDMC. On 25 October 2023, NDMC held its monthly meeting with Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal as a member of the Council, to discuss the agendas of the month and plans, but Kejriwal adjourned and left the meeting midway, Upadhaya said.
Upadhaya alleged that Kejriwal either doesn’t attend the Council meeting or adjourns the meeting and has no interest in development works. He said that Kejriwal habitually leaves meetings; it is not the first time. Upadhaya told The Sunday Guardian: “Either he doesn’t attend the NDMC meeting or he adjourns the meeting and runs away; he never gives answers to questions; 500 plus stubble burning cases have been reported from Punjab, where there is an AAP government, and 100 plus cases from Haryana. When will the AAP government take action? Delhi is turning into a gas chamber and people are falling sick; Kejriwal is a habitual offender; he did the same thing during G20 preparation; at that time, he never attended a meeting; now, again, he is doing the same thing.” Upadhaya further said Kijeriwal is only interested in elections and politics. He said Kijerwal has got scared of the NDMC, and “that’s why whenever we ask questions from him, he runs away without giving any answers”. Upadhaya said, “This AAP government is without governance. As they have no answers and no idea how to tackle the pollution, they only make false promises.” Kuljeet Singh Chhahal, a member of the NDMC, said during a press conference that the Delhi CM is a big hurdle in meetings. “He left the meeting when we started discussing the issues of pollution, stubble burning, and the increase in cases of dengue and malaria.”
Chhahal said, “This was unethical behaviour from the CM; either he doesn’t come or leaves the meeting midway; he comes only for attendance. I asked him about the numerous cases of stubble burning in Punjab, but he didn’t answer any of the questions.” He further said that Delhi will slowly turn into a gas chamber because the AAP government in Punjab fails to control stubble burning, and due to that, Delhi’s air is getting more polluted.
The council’s meeting was attended by NDMC chairperson Amit Yadav, MLA & Member of NDMC, Virender Singh Kadian, Council Members Vishakha Shailani, Girish Sachdeva and NDMC Secretary Dr Ankita
Chakravarty.
