New Delhi: At the 4th edition of the 2024 “We Women Want” event, organized by ITV Network, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari shared his vision for making India a carbon-free nation. His insights on hydrogen vehicles, electric mobility, and infrastructure reforms highlight the connection between technology, sustainability, and empowerment.
Gadkari emphasised the need to reduce pollution by promoting electric vehicles and highlighted the future of hydrogen as a clean energy source, mentioning Toyota’s Mirai car. He discussed the types of hydrogen—black, brown, and green—and stressed the goal of reducing hydrogen production costs to one dollar per kilogram. While acknowledging challenges in hydrogen infrastructure, he emphasised its future importance in transportation. Gadkari also pointed out the benefits of upcoming expressways, which will drastically reduce travel times and pollution, urging people to appreciate the value of better services, even if they come at a cost.
Gadkari highlighted the establishment of 60 vehicle scrapping centres and the benefits of scrapping old cars, including discounts on new vehicles. He explained how advancements in technology improve fuel efficiency, reduce pollution, and save money, citing the cost differences between petrol, CNG, and electric vehicles. He shared developments in Nagpur, such as building multi-level bridges and becoming India’s first city with a continuous water supply and treated wastewater sales.
On societal issues, Gadkari condemned caste-based politics, stressing the importance of unity, equality, and humanity over divisions based on caste, religion, or gender.
