Punjabi singer booked for promoting ‘gun culture’

Punjab police have registered a case against Punjabi singer Manpreet Singh Sangha for promoting gun culture in his songs. Accused singer Sangha has been booked under Sections 294 and 120B IPC in Punjab’s Kapurthala. According to information provided by police, Sangha released a Punjabi song “Still Alive” that allegedly amounts to glorification of gun culture in Punjab. A case has been registered against five persons, including singer Sangha, for the song. The accused have been identified as Manpreer Singh Sangha (Singer), Big Kay Singh, Amandeep Singh, Virun Verma (DOP) and Jatin Arora (Editing).

The complaint was filed by Amandeep Sahota, president, Beem Rao Yuva Force, against alleged glorification of gun culture in Punjab through the song. Sahota in his complaint has alleged that the song “Still Alive” was spreading a negative impact among the youth of Punjab.

Sahota filed the complaint against the team related to the song and following the complaint, police registered the case against the singer and his team. The complaint alleges that the content of the song carries obscene content and promotes gun culture, thus impacting the youth of Punjab.

SSP Kapurthala Rajpal Singh Sandhu said: “Police have received a complaint regarding the promotion of gun culture and the complainant has also provided the video of song as evidence. Following the complaint, the police have registered the case under Section 294 and 120 B IPC and police is further investigating the matter.”

After coming to power in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had initiated a drive against the glorification of gun culture in Punjab. CM Bhagwant Singh Mann had given direction to all CPs and SSPs to take action against people promoting gun culture through social media or any other source.
