RSS, VHP unite for peace, call to end mandir-masjid dispute

Both Hindu outfits are pushing for an end to religious conflicts and emphasizing the need for national unity.

New Delhi: In a powerful joint call for peace, two of India’s most prominent right wing Hindu organizations—Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP)—have united to declare that raking up new mandir-masjid disputes is “unacceptable.”
Both Hindu outfits are pushing for an end to religious conflicts and emphasizing the need for national unity.

RSS Supremo Dr. Mohan Bhagwat recently made headlines by condemning divisive rhetoric, asserting that such disputes must be put to rest.

While talking to The Sunday Guardian VHP Joint General Secretary Surendra Jain said, , “We don’t want any such disputes.”

He recalled that back in 1984, VHP had made it clear that it only sought to reclaim three temples—Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya, and the temples in Kashi and Mathura.

“Had our demand been fulfilled then, these issues wouldn’t have come up,” Jain explained.
He further expressed the legal victory of Hindus over Ram Janmbhoomi and highlighted that VHP has no interest in creating new disputes.

“We don’t want to create more such disputes. Our Muslim brothers should acknowledge that lakhs of temples were destroyed by invaders and the time has come that they should come forward and handover our temples in Mathura and Kashi to Hindus. This can be stopped”, he stressed.

When asked about Dr. Bhagwat’s call for equality, rejecting the idea of a majority and minority, Jain fully supported him and said that “Dr. Bhagwat is 100% right. We are all Bharatwasis, and the concept of minority-majority only divides us. It fuels polarization, and those who promote it are driven by a political agenda that thrives on discord.”

It is pertinent to note here that RS Supremo while speaking at the Vishwaguru Bharat lecture series in Pune, called for unity, cautioning against the politics of divisiveness and majoritarian supremacy.

While talking about the construction of Ram Temple, Dr Bhagwat emphasised that “Building the Ram Temple was a matter of faith for Hindus. And, it does not make one a Hindu leader. The Ram Temple is a matter of faith for all Indians.”

He further called for peaceful coexistence and stressed on avoiding hatred, based on historical grievances.

His statements came in the backdrop of recent debates over the Places of Worship Act which has been challenged in the Supreme Court after the nation witnessed several controversial surveys of mosques and dargahs which has ignited a political spark and also led to the Sambhal violence.
