NewsWomen have made big strides across sectors: Delhi CM

New Delhi: The iTV Network on Monday hosted the “We Women Want Festival & Awards 2024” at the Taj Ambassador Hotel in New Delhi.
Speaking at the conclave, Delhi’s Chief Minister Atishi  Singh said that despite women being the 50% constituent of the society, their participation at the top decision making level is just 20%. Although the Chief Minister acknowledged the big strides women have made across the sectors but added that “Till the time we don’t have more women at the top decision making posts, how can we expect good policies for women.”
Recalling her journey, the CM said that since she comes from a middle-class background as both her parents were professors at the Delhi University she never thought of becoming a Chief Minister and credited this to Aam Aadmi Party’s style of functioning and to its boss Arvind Kejriwal.
On the problems faced by AAP in the last 18 months, she emphasised that “it has been a difficult time for all of us since the entire top brass of our party was jailed.”
“Satyender Jain, Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh and Arvind Kejriwal were all put behind the bars and it was shocking for us.”
There were a lot of problems that we had to face including in governance but somehow we managed and continued with our work by remaining united”, she said.
She also discussed about the achievements of the AAP in Delhi including in the health sector, education and in other spheres.
On women empowerment, she noted that “financial empowerment is one of the most powerful ways to create lasting change.” This came in reference to Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojna’ under which the Delhi government will provide Rs 1,000 monthly honorarium to women.
