Jesus came to seek and save the lost

Sunita had a question. What would King Herod have said if he knew that a woman had sung that God pulled down the mighty and raised the humble, filled the hungry with good things and left the rich with nothing. Raj laughed, and said: “He’d say she was crazy.” The words Sunita was referring to are words of Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, through whose womb the Saviour of the world was born (Lk. 1:48-52).

Today is Christmas. We joyfully celebrate the coming of living God in human flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. Movement is an essential characteristic of living things.

God moved to seek and save the people of the world who had wilfully separated themselves from the life of God.

When we slide down the slippery slope of moral failure, we are captive to forces that breed ignorance and prejudice. Our will to power thrives on ‘I, me and my principle’ and refuses to share wealth and promote equality. Evil is not only real, it seeks us out. Each of us, every individual and every culture has to come to terms with evil. We seek ways to cure the inward infection.

God who is firmly and forever for us and for all creation came into this world, to seek and save us. Jesus came to give us abundant life (Jn. 10:10). This is the Gospel of the Kingdom of God which is for all. This is what led Mary to sing the song of freedom.

We all are creation of One God who came to seek and to save. All human beings irrespective of caste, race, class, gender or creed are created equal and all have equal access to the presence of God. Jesus our Saviour reaches us in His love and grace. Let us also celebrate Christmas by seeking and caring for the disposed and the powerless.
