CHRISTIANITY: Abiding in Christ’s love and true joy

Abiding in Christ’s love is like being anchored in a calm harbour during a storm. No matter how fierce the winds blow, the anchor holds firm, providing security, peace, and assurance. In the same way, abiding in Jesus’ love keeps us steady and grounded, allowing us to experience His deep, unwavering joy even amid life’s challenges. In John 15:11, Jesus promises His disciples a profound joy, saying, “That my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” This promise emphasizes the connection between abiding in Christ’s love and experiencing a deep and enduring joy. This joy is not a fleeting happiness tied to circumstances but is rooted in Christ’s unchanging love. Jesus refers to “my joy,” indicating that this joy originates from Him and is a gift to His followers. It flows from remaining connected to Him, like branches connected to a vine. Abiding in Christ’s love keeps us grounded in the source of true joy. Fullness of joy is beyond happiness. The joy Jesus offers is complete and lasting. It provides a sense of fulfillment and peace that remains steady even during trials and challenges. It is not based on external conditions but on the assurance of Christ’s love. Jesus elevates the relationship He has with His disciples, calling them friends instead of servants (John 15:15). This shift signifies an intimate bond built on mutual trust and love. Friendship with Christ means knowing and sharing in His heart and purpose, which deepens the experience of joy.
Jesus ties this joy to obedience, saying, “If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love” (John 15:10). Obedience is not burdensome but is a joyful response to Christ’s love. When we align with His will, we find fulfillment and purpose, which leads to joy.
