Invest in your marriage

“I am not getting out of marriage what I wanted. I guess nobody does,” said John. And then the Holy Spirit whispered, “What have you invested in your marriage?” John felt convicted. He seriously reflected, “What have I invested in the life of my wife Kiran and even in my children?” It was easy for John to think about investing in his business, his job and on social media, but when it came to marriage, somehow, John expected it to work naturally. He thought I love her, my wife loves me, and she cares for my children. No marriage is immune to problems, but applying God’s word n marriage builds a strong foundation, which the storms of life can’t destroy. Investing in your marriage is one of the finest investments you will ever make.
As the Scripture teaches, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7). Whether you decide for your family or are confronted with intense marital issues, submit to God. Bring your plans, worries, cares, and burdens before God, open your heart and expect God to lead you. God’s word is a manual for life. Go to it to gain wisdom, hear from God, and learn His great ways and how to apply them. Talk to each other about scripture and help answer any questions. Also, pray Scripture over each other and experience even more closeness with each other and God since He is at the centre of the relationship. Hold each other accountable and allow like-minded close friends to speak into your life and ask how you are doing. Be generous. Jesus was a promoter of generosity as He gave Himself up for us. Let Him and His incredible love motivate us to give courageously, whether our time, money, energy or anything. Speak kindly with love.
Affirm each other. Share words of encouragement and show your appreciation for each other. We all have twenty-four hours a day and must set priorities for our marriage to mature and flourish!
