This: A curated new sharing platform

This is a bad name for a website; it offers unlimited opportunities to make bad puns to make one feel smug about one’s limited wit. Outside of that juvenile pastime, This.cm is a content platform with a very specific premise: A user can share only one link a day, and that’s all there is to it. Signing up is a simple enough process — the site will even accept “password123” as your login password, like it did with ours. Once you’re on This, you can either browse through links shared by the Featured Members, or you can access your own network. Your This account links to your existing Twitter account — if you allow it to — so your network expands to include all active This members that you follow on Twitter, giving you access to their choice of link of the day. If you like something they’ve shared, you can always hit the “Thanks” button present underneath each link shared, making This a very polite platform.
The internet, with its collective vacuity and infinite webspace, almost compels its users to share any and every link they find remotely interesting (or not) across social media, almost devaluing the content and also making it increasingly difficult to discover actual good quality content. This helps bypass that embarrassment of riches by giving its members only a single share each day —usually something journalistic — giving it more of a curated quality wherein the members (hypothetically) spend time thinking about the value and worth of that one link that’s been shared, in effect giving readers a chance to explore potentially high-quality content.
