Shutterbug drones: Look up, say cheese

All grand events these days seem to want a drone flying around. And what’s a wedding if not a grand event, especially in this country? There are a couple of ways you could get the wedding filmed on a drone. If you want one to yourself and price is suddenly not an issue,  the DJI Phantom 3 is the way to go. The Rs 63,000 drone has a 2.7K camera attached to it and relays the video being captured to the phone that can be docked on the controller. The 3-axis gimble keeps the camera steady. Videos are captured without any unwanted stutter if you manage to fly the drone right. The 12 MP camera can also take stunning stills, but you’ll need to be confident enough to fly it close to the ground to capture enough detail. While the remote controls the flight, the phone app connects to the camera via wi-fi to shoot images or record videos. The app also offers quick editing options and generates a video. You will have to manage to get all this done in 25 minutes, though, because that’s all the time this feature-filled drone can spend in the air before the battery dies and it comes crashing down.
But if the Phantom is too expensive, there Syma X5C-1 is functional and affordable. It has similar capabilities but falls short in the departments of capturing the video. You’ll have to keep the drone steady for the 2 MP camera to capture acceptable videos, though if it suddenly turns windy, you’re highly unlikely to get anything on camera except for stutters.
If buying a drone isn’t of prime importance because you probably won’t be flying out again, just hire a service that sends you a fleet of them with people to control what/how they go about capturing the wedding.
Quidich is the company that you’ll see flying drones around at music festivals, rallies or other sporting events. They even shoot videos at large gatherings. They’re your best bet if you want to avoid the embarrassment of spending tons of money on to shoot shoddy aerial video of people’s heads.
