Amid George Soros controversy, INDIA bloc moves no-confidence motion against Jagdeep Dhankhar

New Delhi: Amid the disruptions in both houses of the Parliament in the ongoing winter session, the opposition bloc on Tuesday moved a no-confidence motion against Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, the first such incident in the country’s Parliamentary history.

Taking it to X, Congress MP (Rajya Sabha) and general secretary in-charge communications, Jairam Ramesh said “All parties belonging to the INDIA group have had no option but to formally submit a no-confidence motion against the learned Hon’ble Chairman of the Rajya Sabha for the extremely partisan manner in which he has been conducting the proceedings of the Council of States. It has been a very painful decision for the INDIA parties to take, but in the interests of parliamentary democracy they have had to take this step.”

“The motion has just been submitted to the Secretary General of the Rajya Sabha”, it added.

According to the sources, as many as 60 opposition MPs — including from the Congress, RJD, TMC, CPI, CPI-M, JMM, AAP, DMK — have signed the notice.

The said motion was reportedly submitted after chaos erupted in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha that led to war of words between BJP MPs and opposition with the saffron party attacking Congress over alleged links between Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and US businessman George Soros.

Although, the motion against the Rajya Sabha Chairperson is expected to be defeated given the numbers in favour of the ruling alliance but the motion is likely to cement the voice of opposition who wants to prove its point of not being given an opportunity to speak in the House.

The parliament session began on November 25 is facing continuous disruptions and adjournments over Adani, Sambhal riots and other such issues.

Now, with the latest controversy over alleged links between Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi’s with US billionaire Soros, the BJP has found a new way to counter Adani’s bribery.

On Monday as well, the saffron party alleged that Sonia Gandhi had links to an organisation financed by the George Soros Foundation, which has ‘backed’ the idea of Kashmir as an independent nation.
