Slams Congress for ‘Betraying Ambedkar’s Vision’, Misleading over Waqf law
Yamunanagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday attacked the Congress party accusing it of repeatedly humiliating Dr Ambedkar and misusing his legacy.
“Congress made Dr Ambedkar lose elections twice. When in power, they trampled the Constitution during the Emergency. Today, they roam around with a copy of the Constitution in their pockets while trying to divide society using the virus of vote-bank politics,” Modi said while addressing two public rallies rallies—first at the Sankalp Udaan Samaroh in Hisar and later in Yamunanagar’s Kail village.
“Our government has taken several steps to pass on Baba Saheb’s inspiration to the coming generations. But those who make political gains in the name of the Constitution have not only insulted the sacred places associated with him but have also tried to erase them from history”, he said.
In his address Modi invoked Dr BR Ambedkar on his birth anniversary and declared his government’s unwavering commitment to uplifting the poor, Dalits, tribals, and women, calling them the “soul of true social justice”.
The Prime Minister also slammed the Congress for allegedly tweaking the Waqf law in 2013 to appease vote banks, while the BJP government was committed to protecting land rights of the poor and ensuring benefits of Waqf land don’t end up with land mafias.
“Real empowerment means giving Muslim women and youth their due rights, not tokenism. That’s true social justice,” said the prime ministe.
Modi claimed that while Congress leaders had swimming pools full of water, millions of poor households were denied even drinking water.
“When we took over, only 16% households had access to piped water. Today, we’ve taken clean tap water to 80% homes. That’s our tribute to Baba Saheb,” he said.
During the visit the Prime Minister flagged off the maiden flight between Hisar and Ayodhya after laying the foundation of the new terminal building at Maharaja Agrasen Airport and also laid the foundation stone-laying of the third unit of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant in Yamunanagar.
“Haryana is not just land of brave soldiers and farmers—it is a land of brotherhood and progress. From Maharaja Agrasen to Guru Jambheshwar and Agroha Dham, this soil has always given strength to India’s identity,” the Prime Minister said in Hisar.
The PM hailed the expansion of air travel as a symbol of new India’s aspirations. “Before 2014, the country had only 74 airports. Now, we have more than 150. Over 600 destinations are connected under the UDAN scheme, turning the dream of air travel into a reality even for those who wear hawai chappals,” he quipped, while accusing the Congress party of ignoring the development in the country.
He told the gathering that Indian airlines have placed orders for over 2000 new aircraft and this will create huge job opportunities for our youth, including in Haryana.
While in Yamunanagar, where he laid the foundation of the 800-MW third unit of the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant, the Prime Minister emphasized the role of reliable electricity in building a developed India. “From One Nation-One Grid to solar, coal and nuclear energy, our mission is to ensure 24×7 electricity availability and make power shortages a thing of the past,” he added, promising to continue the development story of the country.
While addressing a huge gathering in Yamunanagar, the Prime Minister said, ” Yamunanagar is a crucial part of India’s industrial growth, be it plywood, brass or steel, this region plays a vital role in strengthening our economy”
The Prime Minister also recalled Dr Ambedkar’s quote that the industrial growth would be key to ensuring social justice, especially for Dalits who lack land resources.
The PM also credited the BJP’s state government under Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for bringing transparency in recruitment. Accusing the previous Congress regime in the state of promoting corruption, the Prime Minister said, “Earlier, under Congress rule getting a government job in Haryana meant selling your father’s land or your mother’s jewellery. But now during the BJP regime merit decides your future, not political proximity,” Modi said.
