The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has decided to suspend the services of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib’s Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh for two weeks, as was decided in a meeting held at Katana Sahib in Samrala, Ludhiana. This was the first meeting outside Amritsar since Advocate Dhami became the SGPC president. After the meeting, Giani Harpreet Singh launched a scathing attack on the SGPC.
Giani Harpreet Singh said he knew such a step would be taken. He said that his adversaries were entrusted with the investigation and it was for them to give the verdict. He said that the verdict has already been given and now it just needed to be finalized. He also remembered the previous case of Jathedar of Takht Sri Anandpur Sahib, who was suspended on charges that were never revealed.
Giani Harpreet Singh stated that he has no concern about what is happening with him. He said, “I have already responded to the charges against me over Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
The SGPC had not sent any information about the agenda on the meeting. During the meeting it was agreed that the Head Granthi of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib would carry out Jathedar work during the suspension. A three-member committee has been constituted to probe the issue between Giani Harpreet Singh and Virsa Singh Valtoha. The committee headed by Raghujeet Singh Virk consists of Sher Singh Mand and Daljit Singh Bhindar, and would submit the report to the SGPC soon.
Valtoha’s Social Media Post
On October 15, Virsa Singh Valtoha posted a clip on his social media through which argument had broken up between him and Giani Harpreet Singh before the Sri Akal Takht Sahib. In the recording, the youth also used abused language.
In the clip, only a portion has been leaked of the bigger video.
Responding to the video, Giani Harpreet Singh said to media persons that decisions taken at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on December 2 led to political and personal attempts to defame him. He alleged that the propaganda against him was misleading one, and a selectively edited video clip was being circulated to run down his image.
Giani Harpreet Singh said that he had forwarded his resignation to Sri Akal Takht Sahib two months ago and was not going to do so again. He elaborated that if the five members of the Singh Sahiban sought to reverse the decisions made by the panel on December 2, he would not attend any meeting called by them. He accused another person, Nachhatar, of spreading false rumors about him.
