J&K is against liquor ban

NewsJ&K is against liquor ban

The Jammu and Kashmir government told the High Court on Wednesday that it would be “counter-productive” to impose a ban on the sale and consumption of liquor in the state.
The High Court had earlier said that banning liquor was a policy decision for the government to take. The court was acting on a PIL filed by Karwan-e-Islami, a socio-religious organisation, seeking a ban on the sale and consumption of liquor in J&K. The state government told the HC that a blanket ban will lead to a loss of over Rs 800 crore of revenue annually to the cash-starved state.
