The Uttar Pradesh government, committed to putting the state on the road of high growth, embarked on a ground-breaking initiative by organising the state’s first three-day UP Pravasi Diwas in Agra from 4 January. It was a conference of non-resident Indians (NRIs) of UP origin with the UP government. The meet was aimed at connecting generations of descendants of U.P. NRIs living abroad, who have excelled in their fields, to their homeland and roots. With the Pravasi Diwas, U.P. the government has endeavored to reestablish the bond that was “lost” with the passage of years and join hands with people from U.P. who live and work abroad.
The Akhilesh Yadav government aptly choose Agra as the hub of the first UP Pravasi Diwas, as it is home to the Taj Mahal, an Indian landmark known all over the world. This symbolical gesture was apt in highlighting U.P.’s potential in the field of tourism.
The ancient state which was a centre for most of the major dynasties that ruled the great Indian subcontinent is spotted all over with monuments of the Vedic era all the way to the British Raj. These heritage sites for years have drawn tourists and researchers from around the world who marvel at their beauty and architectural techniques. The venue of the conference reinstated that belief and showed the delegates the potential that the state holds.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was extremely happy to inaugurate the first UP Pravasi Diwas and was appreciated and felicitated for his visionary and unique effort to further push his state on the path of development.
The Pravasi Diwas was inaugurated on 4 January by Yadav who termed it as an effort to welcome back the NRIs of UP and engage them in the development of a better and more dynamic Uttar Pradesh. “The three-day long UP Pravasi Diwas will help forge stronger ties and attract investments for various projects to speed up development of the state,” a senior official of the state government had earlier said here, after a meeting of departmental heads to review preparations for the prestigious event.
The interaction of officials from the UP government and the NRI delegates was lively and focused on the one-point agenda of improving trade and creating jobs for the people of Uttar Pradesh. The meet showcased the future projects which the Akhilesh Yadav government is aiming to undertake with the help of Indian origin industrialists from abroad.
NRIs from countries like Canada, United States, Singapore, Fiji and a few west Asian countries graced the event. The interaction of officials from the U.P. government and NRI delegates was lively and focused on the one-point agenda of improving trade and creating jobs for the people of Uttar Pradesh.
The venue had 12 stalls showcasing the future projects which the Akhilesh Yadav government is aiming to undertake with the help of Indian origin industrialists from abroad. The state government also invited ideas and investments from the attending NRIs and assured them that on their return to their homeland, they will face as few hurdles as possible and that the government will try its best to facilitate their business here.
In the spirit of reaching out and supporting each other, M.A. Yousuf Ali, who has multi-billion dollar businesses running in Gulf countries, said that he was willing to invest Rs 1,000 crore in the development of hospitality infrastructure in Lucknow. Khan is currently the 24th wealthiest Indian and the 737th richest person in the world, with a personal wealth of $3.7 billion. He is the managing director of the Abu Dhabi-headquartered EMKE LuLu Group of companies that owns the Lulu Hypermarket chain in the Middle East.
Yousuf Ali announced that he plans to build a convention center in the capital city of Lucknow, which will match international standards for such establishments. The center would include hospitality, retail and business spaces and will help generate a large number of jobs.
Focusing on the growing youth population of India, both the NRI delegates and the U.P. government officials stressed upon the importance of job creation in the state.
The delegates from different parts of the world were full of innovative ideas as to how Uttar Pradesh should channel its growing and talented human resource.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav also focused on the advances that Uttar Pradesh can achieve in the field of education through this summit.
