Opera Max, from the well-known browser company, is actually a data management app that claims to save 50% of your data usage on mobile internet and wi-fi. It shrinks the size of the data consumed by running all the data entering and leaving your phone through a compression algorithm. The compression might add a slight delay between you sending information and the phone receiving it, but that is compensated by the extra time that it would have taken to send that uncompressed data.
