NEW DELHI: Hyundai Motor India (HMIL), registered total sales of 63,551 units (domestic 49,151 units and exports 14,400 units) in May 2024. This is an increase of 6.63 per cent compared to total sales in May 2023. Tarun Garg, COO, credits it to maintaining a healthy total sales volume in May 2024, despite a week-long routine bi-annual maintenance shutdown at the Sriperumbudur factory. “The SUVs continue to be a growth driver for HMIL, accounting for more than 67 per cent of domestic sales last month. Our rural penetration stood at a healthy 20.1 per cent in May,” says Garg.Kia India registered the sale of 19,500 units in May 2024 recording yoy growth of over 3.9 per cent compared to 18,766 units in the corresponding month of the last year. Launched in January 2024, the new Sonet emerged as the highest-selling model for Kia India in May 2024, with 7,433 units, closely followed by Seltos and Carens with 6,736 and 5,316 units, respectively.

Kia also dispatched 2,304 units to overseas markets in the month, taking the production figure of Kia to 21,804 units. With this, the company surpassed the 2.5 lakh export milestone to over 100 countries, banking on its steady export strategy.Seltos contributes the majority, with almost 60 per cent of exports from India accounted for by the model. Sonet and Carens follow Seltos with 34 per cent and 7 per cent of the company’s overseas dispatches, respectively. Hardeep Singh Brar – Senior Vice President and Head Sales & Marketing at Kia India said the company has been aggressive in introducing new competitive variants of our models, which has contributed significantly to our sales. “With a robust network expansion strategy in place, we shall continue to grow in the rest of the year and cross 1 million domestic sales milestone soon,” said Brar. The company has sold more than 9.8 lakh units in the domestic market, with Seltos contributing almost 50 per cent of the total.

Hector manufacturer MG India has achieved m-o-m growth of 6 per cent over April 2024. Despite the challenging market environment, the carmaker sold 4769 vehicles in May 2024. The company received positive traction for its EVs. With 36 per cent of its overall monthly sales, the EV portfolio of the company remained a major contributor in May 2024. The ZS EV achieved its highest-ever monthly sales since its launch.

Mahindra & Mahindra’s overall auto sales for the month of May 2024 stood at 71,682 vehicles, a growth of 17 per cent, including exports. In the utility vehicles segment, Mahindra sold 43,218 vehicles in the domestic market, a growth of 31 per cent and overall, 44,283 vehicles, including exports. The domestic sales for commercial vehicles stood at 19,826.

Tata Motors sales in the domestic and international market for May 2024 stood at 76,766 vehicles, compared to 74,973 units during May 2023. Domestic sale of MH&ICV in May 2024, including trucks and buses, stood at 12,987 units, compared to 11,776 units in May 2023. Total sales for MH&ICV domestic and international business in May 2024, including trucks and buses, stood at 13,532 units compared to 12,292 units in May 2023.
Underpinning its robust and steady performance, TKM reported monthly growth by registering sales of 25,273 units in the month of May 2024. This represents a year-on-year growth of 24 per cent compared to May 2023, when the company sold 20,410 units. In the month of May, domestic sales reached 23,959 units, complemented by an additional 1,314 units exported. The company also posted a growth of 23 per cent over the month of April 2024, which saw sales of 20,494 units.

Furthermore, this achievement also marks a notable 48 per cent surge in the first five months of CY 2024, with total sales reaching 1,22,776 units, up from 82,763 units in the same period during the previous year.

Chennai based TVS Motor Company registered a sales growth of 12 per cent increasing from 330,609 units in May 2023 to 369,914 units in May 2024. Total two-wheelers registered a growth of 13 per cent with sales increasing from 319,295 units in May 2023 to 359,590 units in May 2024. Motorcycle registered sales growth of 7 per cent with sales increasing from 162,248 units in May 2023 to 173,627 units in May 2024. Scooter sales registered a growth of 20 per cent with sales increasing from 121,156 units in the month of May 2023 to 145,305 units in May 2024.

Electric vehicles grew by 4 per cent with sales increasing from 17,953 units in May 2023 to 18,674 units in May 2024. The company’s total exports grew by 27 per cent with sales increasing from 76,607 units in May 2023 to 96,966 units in May 2024. Two-wheeler exports grew by 33 per cent with sales increasing from 66,605 units in May 2023 to 88,450 units in May 2024. Three-wheeler of the Company registered sales of 10,324 units in May 2024.
