Stress-related hair loss

Stress-related hair loss

The problem of thinning hair, or hair loss, seems to be quite common these days. The reason for this can be stress.

Actually, some of the most common causes of hair loss are stress, nutritional deficiencies, dandruff, excessive oiliness of the scalp, illness, thyroid imbalance, as well as hair damage caused by procedures that use chemical lotions. Stress is one of the most common causes of hair loss and hair problems. Stress is on the increase today, what with a competitive world, whether it is education or career. Many doctors feel that stress can be a major aggravating factor, in many cases. When stress is a cause of hair loss, the first thing to is to set the mind at rest. We provide clinical treatments to stimulate the hair follicles, so that they start growing hair.

A common question is how often the hair should be washed. It is not washing of the hair, but the product one uses, that can have a detrimental effect. The hair should be washed according to hair type and season. Oily hair, as well as hot and humid weather, will entail frequent shampoo. It is so important to choose the right products. Harsh hair products disturb the normal acid-alkaline balance and also stimulate the scalp further, leading to a build-up of dead cells on the scalp. If the work entails traveling long distances, the hair should be washed frequently, using very little shampoo. If there is excessive oiliness, a hair rinse should also be used.

In our long experience of treating hair loss, we have found Ayurvedic ingredients extremely useful, due to their powerful healing properties. They not only help to restore normal balances, aid the removal of toxins and stimulate hair growth, but many of these herbs have been known to calm the nerves, induce relaxation and reduce stress. They also contain vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other valuable substances, which are imperative for hair health. Brahmi, for example, helps in treating stress-related hair problems and promotes growth. Dry Brahmi leaf powder can be used as a hair mask by mixing it with warm water.

Diet and lifestyle are most important. A nutritious diet helps healthy hair growth, since the hair is actually fed by the nutrients in the blood stream. A small bowl of sprouts should be taken daily. Sprouts contain amino acids, which are very beneficial to the hair. Include fresh fruits, raw salads, leafy green vegetables, whole grains and curd in the daily diet. Have adequate protein. If the scalp is oily, or if there is dandruff, drink plenty of water. Add the juice of a lemon to a glass of water and have it first thing in the morning. Ask your doctor to prescribe vitamin and mineral supplements.

To deal with stress related hair loss, it is essential to learn to relax. It has been proved that physical exercise actually helps the body to cope with stress. Start exercises or activities like walking or swimming, after consulting your doctor. In fact, walking is good for both body and mind. Yoga and deep breathing exercises (Pranayam) are helpful in reducing stress. Just a few minutes of deep breathing can be followed with meditation for 15 to 20 minutes. A deep sense of calm prevails.

By doing something different from your mundane activities and chores, you can get rid of negative feelings and fatigue. A hobby or special interest helps to divert the mind. It not only brings pleasure, but can find expression for creative talents and add a dimension to the personality. Social service is very satisfying. It can also bring you into contact with others. These are all useful outlets for stress.
