Head to Jamie’s Pizzeria for the real Italian deal

Just like many proud residents of South Delhi, I was not overjoyed at the idea of going deep into West Delhi to review a restaurant. My destination was Jamie’s Pizzeria, Pacific Mall, Subhash Nagar. As it was not a common occurrence for me to go west from Rajiv Chowk, at the metro station itself I felt sort of unsure. All through the journey with every passing station I felt more and more distant from my habitat but the promise of genuine Italian food at the destination kept me on track.

Once in the mall I found myself to be more settled. The mall is quite pleasant and the Pizzeria is easy to find. The colourful decor of the restaurant quickly separates it from the mostly beige mall surrounding. Though it is good to have choice, too much of anything is bad. Just recall how much trouble it is to decide what to eat at a food court.  Jamie’s Pizzeria has a stress free small menu and one that will please vegetarians.When I say, it will please vegetarians, I mean the slices of greens; tomatoes and cheeses on your pizza are so flavorful they could only be freshly plucked. I would even go to the extent of saying that if one wants to ascertain the real taste of tomatoes one should eat the caprese salad. A mix of yellow and red cherry tomatoes, basil and seriously delightful baby mozzarella this salad would be just the thing for vegetarians or even non-vegetarians. Everyone should try it at least once. The garlic bread, much different than those at Dominoes, Pizza Hut or others pizza places, is highly recommended as appetizer. Roasted tomato bruschetta is also a great starter. The tangy ricotta and fresh yellow tomato are perfect together. Accompany these nibbles with a rejuvenating beverage our recommendation is the homemade ginger beer or the fresh lime soda.

Coming now to the main dough; the pizzas. The base of the pizza accounts for a lot. Off-course Jamie Oliver knows this and so his restaurants sticks to the old way of making the dough and then letting it rest for almost a day. This makes the dough soft inside with a crunchy crust.

There was only so much I could fixate on the pizza base because once I got a taste of what was on top of my margherita pizza, I was a little shaken. The tangy tomato sauce mixed with mozzarella, cheddar and parmesan was just what I had anticipated it to be all the way in the metro. There was disbelief when the pizza finished. But the very next instance we were served another pizza. Chicken peperonata, topped with crushed tomatoes, juicy roast chicken, buffalo mozzarella, charred peppers, black olives, parmesan and oregano this is fully loaded pizza. And will satisfy you quite fully. After a spicy, distinctly flavourful meal we recommend you to take a little break and follow it up with an almond tart with mascarpone cream. As this is a heavy and overwhelming dessert you accompany it with an espresso so your palate is cleared and you taste the tart anew every time you take a bite.
