Faridabad court sentences woman, lover to life imprisonment

Legally SpeakingFaridabad court sentences woman, lover to life imprisonment

New Delhi: In a landmark judgment, a Faridabad court has sentenced a woman, Pooja, and her lover, Ajay, to life imprisonment for the brutal 2018 murder of her husband and father-in-law.
The verdict was delivered by Additional Sessions Judge Amrit Singh Chalia, who also imposed fines of Rs18,000 on Pooja and Rs15,000 on Ajay.
The crime took place on May 29, 2018, when Pooja and Ajay killed Vinod Kumar (25) and his father Siyaram (65) at their home in Faridabad. Originally from Noorpur village in Bareilly district, Vinod had relocated to Faridabad with his wife to live with his father.
The following day, Vinod’s brother, Vishnu, filed a police complaint after learning about the shocking deaths. Upon reaching Faridabad, Vishnu discovered the lifeless bodies of his brother and father in their room. His immediate suspicions fell on Pooja, leading to a detailed police investigation.
During the inquiry, authorities uncovered that Pooja maintained an ongoing relationship with Ajay even after her marriage. Vinod reportedly tried multiple times to persuade her to sever ties with Ajay, but his attempts were in vain.
“The investigation revealed that on the night of May 29, 2018, Pooja and her lover Ajay killed her husband and father-in-law by hitting them on their heads with a pan, iron rod, and stick,” stated Ravindra Gupta, Advocate of the Legal Cell, Faridabad. The gruesome act left the victims with fatal head injuries.
Both accused were arrested shortly after the murders and placed in judicial custody. The case proceeded in court over several years, culminating in Friday’s sentencing.
The judgment underscores the gravity of the crime and the thoroughness of the investigation. “The court of Additional Sessions Judge Amrit Singh Chalia sentenced both accused to life imprisonment and fines,” Gupta added.
This case highlights the devastating consequences of betrayal and violence within families. The verdict serves as a stern warning against such heinous crimes, reinforcing the rule of law and justice.
