Rahul Navin Ascends as Acting Director of ED

Legally SpeakingRahul Navin Ascends as Acting Director of ED

Rahul Navin, the Special Director of the Enforcement Directorate, has been appointed as the in-charge Director of the ED until the appointment of a regular Director or until further orders.

This appointment comes as a replacement for Sanjay Mishra, whose tenure had been extended three times.
According to the official order, “The president is pleased to order the cessation of tenure of Sanjay Kumar Mishra as the Director of Enforcement in the Enforcement Directorate on September 15 and placing Rahul Navin, Special Director, Enforcement Directorate, as the in-charge Director, Enforcement Directorate, until the appointment of a regular director or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”

In July, the Supreme Court had allowed an extension of Sanjay Kumar Mishra’s tenure as the Director of the Enforcement Directorate until September 15. The court made it clear that it would not entertain any further applications for an extension. Previously, the Supreme Court had stayed the Centre’s order granting a third extension to Mishra, terming it “illegal.”

However, the extension was granted by the Supreme Court in consideration of “national interest” following the Centre’s request to extend Mishra’s tenure until October 15, in light of the ongoing Financial Action Task Force (FATF) review.
