Amartya Sen interview row: Censor board’s act is constitutionally impermissible, says Rajindar Sachar

NewsAmartya Sen interview row: Censor board's act is constitutionally impermissible, says Rajindar Sachar

Rajindar Sachar, former president of People Union for Civil Liberties, has strongly criticised the Central Board of Film Certification’s decision to edit out any references to “cow”, “Gujrat” and “Hindutva” from the interview of noble laureate Amritya Sen.

In a written statement issued to the media, Sachar said: “‘constitutionally impermissible’ is the instant reaction to the totally un acceptable suggestion of Central Board of Film Certification Regional office to mute words like ‘Cow’, ‘Gujrat’ and Hindutva from the interview of noble laureate Amritya Sen”.

He added: “This action has made laughing stock of India’s open society. It should be immediately scrapped. Censor Board should not be allowed to mock at the fundamental rights of free speech.”
