Develop a spiritual vision

opinionDevelop a spiritual vision

Abraham’s life teaches us that spiritual vision is for those who have learned to walk by faith. It was not an easy decision for Abraham to leave his familiar surroundings and life, and travel to a new land the Lord would show him. But, Abraham put his trust in God. He lifted his eyes and saw by faith the land of his inheritance. This supernatural seeing was his first dimension of faith; it speaks of our initial walk with God, as well.

Once we begin to walk by faith, we will begin to see previously unseen things, as the Holy Spirit enlighten us from God’s Word. Jesus had promised concerning the Holy Spirit: “When the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; He will speak only what He hears.” (John 16:13).

We are also enabled to embark on our walk of faith as we hear from the Spirit of God. In Genesis chapter 15, Abraham received an enlargement of his faith. God came to him and revealed Himself as the God who rewards. God spoke to Abraham, “‘Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward” (Gen. 15:1). The Bible teaches, “faith comes from hearing and hearing through the word of Christ” (Rom. 10:17).

We need to have an ear to hear the word and a will to joyfully obey. Our walk of faith with Christ, and one another, gives us the ability to not only see, but also to hear. Seeing and hearing are key elements for those daughters and sons of God who desire to walk by faith.

The faith walk results in greater revelation of the God of holy love. The more we love God, the more we will know him, and the more will love all of God’s creation. Ultimately, as we receive  a revelation of who God is, we increase in faith to become what God wants us to be.
