Once we move out of the legalist mind-set, and begin to walk by faith, led by the Spirit of God, we must be careful not to go to the other extreme. We must refrain from becoming people led by lustful desires which take our focus off the love of God. Instead, as we follow the voice of the Spirit, the word of God is internalised, and our love for God and His creation flourishes.

We cannot fulfill the lustful desires and, at the same time, be pleasing to God. The Bible teaches, “for if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live” (Rom. 8:13). Not only will we fail to please God when we live according to the sinful desires, we will also fail to reach the highest potential for our lives.

To achieve the full potential of God given talents and gifts of Spirit, we must abide in Christ and His word. The God of love and truth will always will meet us at our point of need. Jesus demonstrated this example in His life. He was always available to all kinds of people who called upon Him. Even today, Jesus our gracious friend walks with us in our life’s journey.

We are not alone, the Holy Spirit empowers us to overcome temptations that cause us to stumble and fall. We don’t have to drown ourselves in the pool of self-pity and depression. God’s refreshing presence restores our lost smile, even in the midst of pain.

Therefore, motivated by the love of God poured in us by the Spirit of God, we must put to death the lustful desires with its passions, that tempt us to walk in darkness. The Bible teaches, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:24-25). God is calling us to a higher ground than where we are right now.
