The “secret” visit of BJP general secretary Ram Madhav to Jammu has fuelled speculation about a possible reshuffle of the state BJP ministers and some important intra-party decisions.
The state BJP law makers have been making open attacks on their ministers and their behaviour in the recent Budget session in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly had forced the party to take some remedial measures. Exploiting the rift within the BJP, the Congress has launched a blistering attack on PM Narendra Modi and the BJP for “not having any policy on either Kashmir or Pakistan”. AICC general secretary Ambika Soni and Ghulam Nabi Azad said in a press conference that PM Modi was not being able to protect the border residents.
Sensing trouble, BJP national secretary Ram Madhav made an unscheduled visit to Jammu on Wednesday evening. Most of the BJP leaders were unaware of his visit, party sources told this reporter. A senior BJP leader from Jammu told this reporter that the party’s central leadership was mulling to induct some credible faces in the J&K Cabinet to revive the organisation. Ram Madhav also held a closed door meeting with BJP ally Sajjad Lone, who is presently a Cabinet minister in the Mehbooba Mufti-led government on the BJP’s quota.
Party sources confirmed to this newspaper that Madhav held secret meetings with Deputy CM Nirmal Singh, BJP state general secretary Ashok Koul and state BJP president Sat Sharma. According to sources, a reshuffle in the council of ministers and some changes in the party on the state level were on the cards.
