Madhya Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has been a model of how states can work in partnership with the Central government to usher in holistic progress and be a model of good and inclusive governance. The state has promptly implemented the measures taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving new direction and accelerating the pace of development in the country, be it the Jan-Dhan Yojana or other insurance schemes, participation in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan or the “Make in Madhya Pradesh” initiative on the lines of “Make in India”.

Foundation has been laid and work started for construction of Electronic Manufacturing Clusters at Bhopal and Jabalpur under Digital Madhya Pradesh to put into practice the concept of “Digital India”. The policy for e-mail has been formulated for maximum use of IT for good governance. The state is in the forefront in “Ease of Doing Business”. In all, Madhya Pradesh is marching ahead shoulder to shoulder with the Prime Minister.

Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana

Madhya Pradesh is a pioneer in meeting targets under the “Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana” for financial inclusion. Now, every family in the state has minimum one bank account. The work of direct benefit transfer is being promoted. Amounts of MNREGA wages and beneficiary-oriented schemes are being deposited directly in beneficiaries’ bank accounts. On 9 May 2015, the Central government introduced the “Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima”, “Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti” and the “Atal Pension Yojana” in the country to give security cover to a large chunk of population. In Madhya Pradesh, these schemes are being implemented through a campaign being monitored by members of the state cabinet.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Madhya Pradesh has enthusiastically implemented the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Separate strategies have been chalked out for urban and rural areas. The target of constructing toilets in all schools will be achieved soon in the state. A scheme has been started to provide Rs 12,000 to couples getting married under the Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana if their house does not have a toilet. Madhya Pradesh is the first state to do so.

A campaign is underway in Madhya Pradesh to make available and utilise sanitation facilities with community participation in rural areas under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The objective of the mission is to rid all villages of the practice of open defecation by constructing toilets in all houses and ensure all-round cleanliness in villages through solid and liquid waste management by 2 October 2019.

Digital India-Make in Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh has successfully proved that information technology can be used to make people’s lives easier and ensure transparent governance. Information Technology has become the symbol of excellence in every field, including investment and public service delivery. Madhya Pradesh is a pioneer in public services delivery, enhancing transparency and innovations to make governance processes smooth and responsive through the use of information technology.

Madhya Pradesh is the first state in the country to implement IPV 6 through its own efforts and certified about 30-40 government websites with IPV 6. So far, 3600 offices of 42 departments, 400 public service centres and over 5,000 designated officers have been connected with the state-wide area network connectivity (SWAN).

IT parks have been established at Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, and Jabalpur. A a number of prestigious companies life TCS, Infosys etc are setting up their development centres in various cities of the state. Madhya Pradesh is the first state to formulate an analog semiconductor fabrication investment policy. 

Skill india

Prestigious educational institutions of the country and abroad are setting up their institutions in the state. The foundation stone of the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management and Science was laid at Indore recently. Similarly, Symbiosis is also setting up its two excellence centres at Indore. The state government is also constantly promoting technical education and skill development. Cooperation of the private sector is also being taken in all this. Madhya Pradesh Skill Development Mission is being implemented. The mission has set a target to train 40 lakh persons in the coming years.

Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao

Under this Central government scheme, four districts of Madhya Pradesh have been selected including Datia, Gwalior, Bhind and Morena. District and block level task forces have been constituted to implement the scheme. Under the schemes, birth of a girl child is registered and process is on to constitute the Gudda-Guddi Board. To support the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao Yojana, other schemes are being implemented in campaign mode including Lado, Ladli Laxmi, Shaurya Dal, Swagatam Laxmi and Usha Kiran. This has improved the gender ratio throughout the state.
