The mystery of creation

opinionThe mystery of creation

The natural world, created by God, results in an appreciation of the wonder and glory of God. The beauty of creation reveals God. King David agreed that “the heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands (Psalm 19:1).” We see God’s glory when we observe the heavens. Affirming David,  Hildegard commented, “God cannot be seen, but can be known through his creation, just as the body of a human being cannot be seen on account of his clothes.”

The study of nature helps us learn more about the wisdom and majesty of God. Jesus used creation based illustrations to teach the wisdom of God. Jesus helped his followers understand the futility of worry, saying, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? (Matt. 6:26).”

The Bible says, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse (Rom.1:20).” We worship the living and true God revealed in Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord, and the source of God’s creation (1 Thess.1:9, Col 1:15-20).

Few are not moved by the spectacle of a glorious sunset, the radiance of the star-studded night sky, or the enormity of a mountain landscape. In every case, the sense of wonder evoked by the creation is of spiritual significance, leading to an increased sense of wonder in the presence of God.

God has given us the ability to appreciate the beauty in what He has created. “And God saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good” (Gen. 1:31).” Let us worship our beautiful Creator and take care of His creation.
