NewsBJP gets resounding victory in UP and Bihar bypolls

New Delhi: The BJP-led NDA secured a significant victory in the recent bypolls, sweeping 7 out of 9 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh and all 4 seats in Bihar. The results delivered a severe setback to the opposition I.N.D.I.A. alliance, as key players like the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) failed to make an impact.
The bypoll results in Uttar Pradesh reinforced the BJP’s dominance in the state, countering earlier speculation about a potential decline in its influence. The NDA claimed 7 out of the 9 seats contested, with the BJP winning 6 and its ally Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) securing 1. The SP, which had performed well in the Lok Sabha elections, managed to win only 2 seats—Karhal and Sisamau.
Key results in UP included:
Phulpur: BJP’s Deepak Patel defeated SP’s Mohammed Siddiqui by 11,305 votes.
Ghaziabad: BJP’s Sanjeev Sharma won by a massive margin of 69,351 votes.
Khair: BJP’s Surendra Diler defeated SP’s Chari Kain by 38,393 votes.
Majhwan: Shuchismitra Maurya of the BJP overcame SP’s Dr. Jyoti Bind by 4,922 votes.
Meerapur: RLD’s Mithilesh Pal triumphed over SP’s Sumbul Rana by 30,796 votes.
Kundarki: BJP’s Ramvir Singh secured a landslide victory over SP’s Mohammad Rizwan, winning by 144,791 votes.
The Samajwadi {Partu wonSAMAJWADI Katehari: BJP’s Dharmraj Nishad defeated SP’s Shobhawati Varma by 34,514 votes.
Karhal: SP’s Tej Pratap Singh defeated BJP’s Anujesh Pratap Singh by 14,725 votes.
Sisamau: SP’s Naseem Solanki overcame BJP’s Suresh Awasthi by 8,564 votes. BJP spokesperson Manish Shukla hailed the results as a rejection of Akhilesh Yadav’s PDA strategy, claiming the electorate viewed the SP as a party supporting “criminals.” “The BJP’s double-engine government and seven years of achievements have resonated with voters,” Shukla said. In contrast, SP national spokesperson I.P. Singh alleged misuse of government machinery and questioned the credibility of EVMs, asserting that without them, the BJP would not have won any seats. He dismissed the bypolls’ significance and expressed confidence in SP’s resurgence during the 2027 assembly elections.
Bihar: NDA sweeps, opposition struggles In Bihar, the NDA dominated the bypolls, winning all four seats and signaling its growing popularity under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s leadership. The BJP claimed two seats, while its allies, JDU and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), won one seat each.
Key results in Bihar included:
Belaganj: JDU’s Manorama Devi defeated RJD’s Vishwanath Kumar Singh by 21,391 votes, securing 73,334 votes.
Imamganj: HAM’s Deepa Manjhi, daughter-in-law of Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, won by 5,945 votes, defeating RJD’s Roshan Kumar.
Tarari: BJP’s Vishal Prashant defeated CPI-ML’s Raju Yadav by 11,012 votes.
Ramgarh: BJP’s Ashok Kumar Singh narrowly beat BSP’s Satish Kumar Singh Yadav by 1,362 votes.
The results underscored the opposition’s failure, as the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan failed to win any seats. Political analysts have described these bypolls as a “semifinal” for the 2025 Bihar assembly elections, signaling a strong advantage for the NDA.
JDU spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan praised Nitish Kumar’s leadership: “Winning all four seats sends a strong message that the NDA is well-positioned for 2025. The people have rejected the opposition’s negative agenda and supported Nitish Kumar’s 19-year legacy of achievements.” The bypoll results reaffirm the NDA’s dominance in two politically crucial states. In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP continues to consolidate its position, while the opposition faces a challenging road ahead. The SP’s PDA strategy, focused on uniting backward castes and minorities, failed to deliver results, raising questions about its efficacy in future elections.
In Bihar, the NDA’s clean sweep highlights the challenges for the Mahagathbandhan, which needs to address internal discord and regain public trust before the 2025 assembly elections. Nitish Kumar’s leadership and the BJP’s organizational strength have bolstered the NDA’s prospects.
